Pomfret, CT Area Guide

Known as "The Mashmuket Purchase", Pomfret was bought from the local Indians in 1686. Rich in history, Pomfret started as an agricultural center and has slowly transformed into a residential area with agricultural and light industrial aspects. After incorporation in 1713, the lands acquired in "The Mashmuket Purchase" became known as Pomfret and continued to be so until Brooklyn, Hampton & Putnam each took land from Pomfret during their respective incorporations.
