Woodstock, CT Area Guide

Woodstock's storied history began several decades before the town became part of Connecticut. Originally home to the Wabbaquasset Indian tribe (part of the Mohegan nation), Woodstock was included in a purchase of land made in 1682 by Massachusettes. After King Philips' War broke out, the natives left their villages, leaving the land open for settlement. After a name change from New Roxbury in 1690, Woodstock became part of Connecticut in 1749.
