Bolton Lake

Bolton Lake is actually three lakes in one! Upper and Middle are located in Coventry Tolland Vernon vicinities and Lower Bolton Lake is located in Bolton.

A surface runoff feeds from Upper Bolton into Middle Bolton which is an artificial lake with a concrete and earthen dam. Middle and Lower Bolton lakes are connected by a spillway.

Both Lower and Middle Bolton Lakes have significant residential development.

Boating   Sailors are invited to race Sunfish sailboats on Lower Bolton Lake. An annual regatta is held in the spring and is sponsored by the Bolton Lake Sailing Club.

Boat launches are located in all three lakes plus the Bolton Notch Pond. Motors are limited to 6 hp.

Bolton Upper boat launch is located on Route 44 in Coventry. It’s is a carry in launch with parking across the street where there is also a trailored launch for Middle Bolton Lake.

Lower Bolton Lake has a trailored boat launch located off Route 44 in Bolton.

The boat launch at Bolton Notch Pond is limited to Car Top/ Carry-In Access from small, narrow unimproved road just before junction of Route I-384 and Route 6 going west on Route 44.

Fishing   There is fishing all year round in Bolton Lakes. You can catch catfish, pan fish or bass.

In the summer, you can catch channel catfish in Lower Bolton Lake. The lake was stocked last year, and it’s expected that the catfish will grow into trophy sized proportions for years to come.

Lower Bolton Lake also offers panfish and bass fishing too!

When the lakes freeze deeply enough, ice fishing is a great sport on Bolton Lake which offers 346 acres of fishing potential. Anglers go for bass during the winter months, and are cautioned to drill their fish holes big enough so that the mammoth bass can squeeze through.

Recreational Activites   Take your kayak for a torchlight tour around the lake at sunset or bring a flashlight for a moonlit paddle.

Bolton has terrific adult and youth programs that include soft ball leagues, walking clubs, Foxwoods bingo night, aerobics, yoga, fish fries, church suppers almost every night of the week!

Destinations   The Buckland Mall offers a complete array of shopping conveniences and is located ten minutes away.

Bolton is right down Route 44 from Caprilands, where you can stroll on hot summer afternoons through renowned herb gardens designed to inspire gardeners everywhere. You can buy herbs to take home to plant or purchase dried herbs in the Caprilands barn.

Fresh produce are grown and sold right outside of Indian Notch during summer months.

Proximity   Located right off Route 384, Bolton is ten minutes from Hartford.

An hour from the Connecticut sea shore.

A two hour drive to Boston and points along Cape Cod.
